Aquire a Korean Visa
If you are interested in visiting Korea, you will need a visa to enter the
country. Here is a general overview of the steps you need to take to obtain a
Korean visa:
Determine the type of visa you need: There are different types of visas
depending on the purpose of your visit. For example, if you are going for
tourism, you will need a tourist visa. If you are going for work, you will need
a work visa. Visit the website of the Korean embassy in your country to find out
which type of visa you need.
Gather the required documents: The required documents for a Korean visa
application may vary depending on the type of visa you need. However, some
common documents include a passport with at least six months validity, a
completed visa application form, a recent passport-size photo, flight itinerary,
proof of accommodation in Korea, and financial documents (e.g. bank statements,
income tax returns, etc.) to prove that you have enough funds to support your
stay in Korea.

Submit your application: Once you have gathered all the required documents,
submit your visa application at the Korean embassy or consulate in your country.
You can usually submit your application in person or by mail. Make sure to pay
the visa application fee at this time.
Wait for processing: Processing times for Korean visas may vary depending on
the embassy and the type of visa you are applying for. Generally, it can take
anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to process a visa application. Check
with the embassy for the expected processing time.
Collect your visa: Once your visa is approved, you can collect it from the
embassy or consulate. Make sure to check the validity dates and other details to
ensure that your visa is valid for your planned trip.
It is important to note that visa requirements and processes may change over
time, so it is always best to check the website of the Korean embassy or
consulate in your country for the most up-to-date information.
Korean Visa Process
Effective December 21st, 2020, all applicants must schedule an appointment online through Consul 24 (click the link) prior to dropping off their application packet in person. Those who reside in DC, VA, MD, or WV can reserve their appointment online by selecting "Embassy of Korea in the US" as their jurisdiction location for consular services. Appointments are available during the following time slots: 9 AM-12 PM and 3 PM-5 PM. We encourage visa applicants to book their appointments between 9 AM-12 PM as afternoon appointments may cause further delays in visa processing.
Welcome to the Visa Service Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the USA. The Republic of Korea joined the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP) on November 17th, 2008. U.S. citizens are now able to visit the Republic of Korea for up to 90 days without a visa for tourism, business meetings, attending conferences, or visiting family or relatives. Extension of stay is not permitted. U.S. citizens who do not qualify for the VWP or are not eligible to enter Korea without a visa must apply for an appropriate entry visa.
